Album Leaves

Another small study, acrylic on a 12x9 primed canvas sheet. I wanted to continue portraying musicians and for this one I chose a guitarist. I played with color and for a unifying effect, I used raw sienna as a base for most of the colors. Other things of note with this one are the season, the weather, the clothing of the figures, the point of view and probably a few other details I had in mind.

I like doing these small paintings. This study I started Friday night and am satisfied that it's complete now on Sunday morning. The small paintings are kind of a safe and cheap way to try things that I can carry over to major works.

An Album Leaf, btw, is a kind of impromput musical piece. Many famous composers would jot down a few bars of music in the notebook of fans most often of the opposite sex.
